AUDI AG: Sales up by roughly 39 percent in January

INGOLSTADT, Germany ,  Feb 8, 2010  -  With some 77,800 cars delivered worldwide, AUDI AG achieved sales growth of around 39 percent in January (2009: 56,138). In the past month, 16,798 Chinese customers chose an Audi – more than twice as many as in January 2009 (2009: 7,816). Sales in the United States rose by 37.9 percent to 6,510 cars (2009: 4,722). Sales in Europe outside Germany grew by 23 percent, with 33,300 cars sold (2009: 27,020).

HERNDON, Va. ,  Feb 5, 2010  -  Audi today announced that Chad Henne, quarterback of the Miami Dolphins, won the first-ever Audi Efficiency Challenge. The Challenge pitted high-profile members of the media, including Bill Simmons of ESPN.com and Mike Silver of Yahoo! Sports, against two NFL stars: Henne of the Miami Dolphins and the New York Giants’ Osi Umenyiora. Not a traditional race, the Audi Efficiency Challenge was designed to see who could achieve the best fuel-efficiency in an Audi Q7 TDI clean diesel SUV while driving from the Audi USA headquarters in Herndon, Virginia, to Miami, Florida. Henne has selected the Berks County Community Foundation to receive the $20,000 donation that Audi will make in his name.

World Economic Forum drives Audi: No barriers for clean fleet

INGOLSTADT/DAVOS ,  Jan 26, 2010  -  It is harder than ever to pass through the checkpoints at the 40th World Economic Forum (WEF) being held in Davos, Switzerland, from January 27 – 31. Only cars with a “Green Eco” sticker are allowed to pass. To get the sticker, a vehicle may not consume more than nine liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (26.13 US mpg) nor emit more than 230 grams of CO2 per kilometer (370.15 g/mile). The Audi fleet satisfies these criteria and thus can drive into downtown Davos. Together, Audi and Volkswagen are providing more than 270 vehicles so that delegates can reach the World Economic Forum quickly and safely. With an average fuel consumption of 8.5 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers (27.67 US mpg) and CO2 emissions of 224 grams per kilometer (360.49 g/mile), the 86 Audi A8L 3.0 TDI sedans being used to provide comfortable chauffeur service for the more than 500 VIPs are a particular highlight.

AUDI AG: Sales forecast for 2009 clearly exceeded

INGOLSTADT, Germany ,  Jan 11, 2010  -  Audi has clearly exceeded the sales forecast that had already been upgraded in the course of last year, selling 949,700 cars worldwide in 2009. Overall sales for 2009 were thus only 5.4 percent down on the record-breaking figure for 2008 (2008: 1,003,469 vehicle deliveries). Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, interprets this as a sign of the Audi brand’s strength: “We are making a lively start 2010 and aim to deliver one million cars again.” Audi sold a further 79,300 cars in December – a fall of just 4.2 percent on the corresponding month of the previous year.

AUDI AG: November sales figures 8.9 percent above preceding year

INGOLSTADT, Germany ,  Dec 8, 2009  -  In November AUDI AG delivered around 82,750 cars to customers – 8.9 percent more than in the preceding month (2008: 75,965). Between January and November Audi sold some 870,600 cars worldwide (2008: 920,689). The distance behind the record year of 2008 thus shrunk to 5.4 percent. Besides high growth rates in the Asia-Pacific region, sales figures in the United States and in other American markets also contributed to the good monthly results.

Audi upgrades annual sales target to 925,000 cars

INGOLSTADT, Germany ,  Nov 9, 2009  -  AUDI AG sold around 82,750 cars in October, 0.4 percent more than in the prior-year month (2008: 82,436). From January through October, Audi sold some 787,900 cars worldwide (2008: 844,724). The difference compared with the record-breaking year 2008 was consequently reduced to -6.7 percent, significantly better than forecast at the start of the year. In China, Audi had already matched the total for the whole of 2008 by the last week of October.

Audi Group continues to defy crisis in 3rd quarter: operating profit of EUR 348 million

New body shop for Audi A3

Earthwork operations for a key construction project in the northern sector of Audi's Ingolstadt site will begin in late October. More than €100 million will be invested in a new body-manufacturing shop for the Audi A3.

Audi clear premium market leader in Europe

INGOLSTADT, Germany ,  Oct 9, 2009  -  AUDI AG sold around 705,300 cars worldwide from January through September. The cumulative result is thus a mere 7.5 percent behind last year’s record (2008: 762,288 cars) in a situation that continues to be difficult. In the first three quarters of the year, the company’s unit sales were ahead of the projected figures, with Audi aiming to deliver approximately 900,000 cars to customers in 2009 as a whole. In September the company delivered around 88,600 cars, with sales remaining some 6.8 percent behind the strong figures of last September (2008: 95,136). The company recorded high growth in the BRIC countries, especially in China. Other emerging markets in the Asia-Pacific region have also improved significantly on last year.

September 2009: Best month for Audi in China

INGOLSTADT/CHANGCHUN ,  Oct 6, 2009  -  AUDI AG sold a total of 108,859 vehicles in China (including Hong Kong) from January through September. This represents an increase of 20 percent on the corresponding prior-year period. In September, the brand sold over 15,000 cars in a single month for the first time ever, recording an increase of 37 percent on the same month last year. This makes September Audi’s best month ever in China.

100th anniversary of Bernd Rosemeyer's birth

INGOLSTADT, Germany ,  Oct 6, 2009  -  The 100th anniversary of the birth of racing driver Bernd Rosemeyer, who was born on October 14, 1909 in Lingen in north-west Germany, is approaching. Audi Tradition will be laying a bouquet at the memorial on today?s A5 Autobahn. Rosemeyer achieved international fame primarily as one of Auto Union?s top drivers in Grand Prix races and world speed record attempts in the ?Silver Arrows? era of the 1930s. His racing triumphs in Europe, Africa and the USA made him a public idol ? not least because of his swashbuckling driving style. Bernd Rosemeyer was a hero of his time, who tragically lost his life at the zenith of his career while making a world speed record attempt in early 1938.

Audi is worldwide all-wheel-drive leader in the premium segment

INGOLSTADT, Germany ,  Oct 5, 2009  -  No premium manufacturer builds and sells more all-wheel-drive cars worldwide than Audi. This is borne out by figures from the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). And as the registration statistics show, Audi also sells more all-wheel-drive models in Germany than any other premium brand. From January through August, Audi produced some 190,500 vehicles with quattro drive, which means that around one third of all Audi cars are equipped with this technology. The Audi Q5, the most prominent new addition to the all-wheel model lineup, is the most successful SUV in its class worldwide – with some 63,100 units sold in the first eight months of 2009.

Audi Efficiency Challenge A to B at the finish line - efficiency in the entire model range

INGOLSTADT, Germany ,  Oct 2, 2009  -  The Audi Efficiency Challenge A to B has crossed the finish line. After nine days and approximately 4,200 kilometres through Europe from north to south, the consumption figures bear testament to the outstanding efficiency of the entire Audi range. The brand’s new “paragon of efficiency” is the Audi A3 1.6 TDI. With an average best-of-day figure of only 3.3 litres per 100 kilometres, it stayed considerably below the already excellent nominal consumption of 3.8 litres, equating to CO2 emissions of 99 g/km. “The outstanding consumption figures achieved on the Efficiency Challenge demonstrate that efficiency is a standard feature in every Audi”, commented Axel Strotbek, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Finance and Organisation, speaking from the finish line in Bée. “The Audi Efficiency Challenge is clear proof of our Vorsprung durch Technik,” said Michael Dick, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Technical Development.

Audi uses more waste heat, produces less CO2

INGOLSTADT, Germany ,  Sep 29, 2009  -  The new waste heating contract has been signed, sealed and delivered. Member of the Audi Board for Production Frank Dreves, Ingolstadt Mayor Dr. Alfred Lehmann, Gerhard Fischer of the Petroplus refinery, Gerhard Meyer of Zweckverband Müllverwertungsanlage Ingolstadt (the Ingolstadt waste utilization plant), Raimund Wunder of Volkswagen Kraftwerk GmbH and Herbert Stockmeier of Stadtwerke Ingolstadt (the Ingolstadt municipal utility company), signed the pioneering document in the presence of Dr. Markus Söder, the Bavarian State Minister for the Environment and Health. Beginning in 2011, the Ingolstadt municipal utility company Stadtwerke Ingolstadt will increase the amount of waste heat supplied to Audi to roughly 120,000 MWh per year. The amount of waste heat supplied to the City of Ingolstadt will likewise increase to roughly 310,000 MWh per year under the terms of the contract. This corresponds to potential annual savings of roughly 67,000 metric tons of CO2, of which 26,000 metric tons are of at Audi alone.

Audi R15 TDI wins efficiency trophy in the U.S.

INGOLSTADT/ATLANTA ,  Sep 27, 2009  -  Audi Sport Team Joest’s test entry in the 1000-mile "Petit Le Mans" race at Road Atlanta (U.S. state of Georgia) had an unexpected outcome: The American endurance classic had to be red flagged just before half-time due to torrential rainfall. Although Audi had led almost entirely, the two R15 TDI prototypes were only classified in third and fourth positions. INGOLSTADT, Germany ,  Jul 8, 2009  -  With around 91,200 cars, AUDI AG increased its global sales by 1.3 percent last month, compared to June 2008 (2008: 90,025). Over the first six months the brand narrowed the gap to the previous year’s record sales to minus 9.7 percent, with around 466,000 vehicles delivered (2008: 516,219). The main driving forces behind the sales success in June were record unit sales in China and Germany. Likewise, Audi’s business performance in the United States and Western Europe was much better than that of its competitors. Over the first six months of this year, Audi was the strongest premium brand in Western Europe.

Jazz captivates large audiences: since 2001, more than 37,000 people have attended some 270 jazz concerts at the Audi Forum Ingolstadt. The long tradition that has led to the grand piano has included many baroque versions that are not ideally matched to Audi’s design language. Despite this, the Audi Design Studio team in Munich decided to tackle the task of housing a concert grand piano in an Audi “outer skin”.

INGOLSTADT, Germany ,  Jul 7, 2009  -  In the second heat of the “RCN Green Challenge” held on the Northern Loop of the Nürburgring, Audi once again proved that performance and efficiency are not mutually exclusive: Two Audi TT 2.0 TFSI models entered the efficiency contest, finishing in 1st and 4th place. In this four-lap competition in Germany’s Eifel region, the drivers of the victorious TT Coupé boasted an average fuel consumption of only 1.6 liters per each lap of 20.832 kilometers (12.94 miles). With these results, the winner beat the standard city consumption serving as the benchmark by 28 percent – a feat unmatched by any other participant.

Best first half-year in company history for deliveries in China

The Audi A4 and Q5 achieved a top five-star rating in the new and more stringent Euro New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) safety tests. The U.S. National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed this outstanding collision performance and gave both cars a five-star rating in all categories. Lucas Luhr left the track entering the Porsche Curves and slammed heavily backwards into the tire wall. Although the German still tried to bring the car back to the pits, the stewards, however, prohibited Luhr, who shared the cockpit of the diesel sportscar with Mike Rockenfeller and Marco Werner, to return to the track for safety reasons because the car was losing oil. A technical defect can be excluded.

How the "Silver Arrow" legend was born

INGOLSTADT, Germany ,  May 26, 2009  -  75 years ago, one of the most dramatic chapters in the whole of motor sport history began. On May 27, 1934 the German racing cars that were soon to acquire the nickname “Silver Arrow” were entered for their first race, on the Avus racetrack in Berlin. Although neither Auto Union, the company from which Audi in its present-day form developed later, nor Mercedes Benz won that event, it was not long before these two manufacturers began to dominate international Grand Prix racing, a situation that prevailed until the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939. It seems almost incredible today, but by 1936 the Auto Union racing cars were reaching speeds of up to 380 kilometres an hour on the long straights of the Avus circuit – truly, the birth of a legend.

From Horch to Audi

INGOLSTADT, Germany ,  Mar 6, 2009  -  The museum mobile in the Audi Forum Ingolstadt has organised a spectacular exhibition to commemorate the centenary of the Audi brand. For this unique event, which is entitled “From Horch to Audi – The history of perfection has a new name”, historic cars have been collected together from all over Europe. From March 11 to July 16, 2009, visitors to the Audi museum mobile will be able to see thirteen cars dating from before the Second World War, including the first model to bear the Audi name, a 1911 Audi Type A, and a world premiere – the 1935 Audi 225 Front Special Roadster which was recently rebuilt. Both these cars, and many other exhibits as well, are the only examples to be seen anywhere in the world.

Ladies German Open “presented by Audi”

Audi reports February sales

HERNDON, Va. ,  Mar 3, 2009  -  Audi today announced sales for the month of February totaling 4,653 units sold, a decrease from February sales in 2008.  Audi predicts an increase in its share of the U.S. luxury vehicle market when all February 2009 sales are reported compared to year-earlier results.  This increase continues a consistent climb by Audi in market share over the course of last year and again this January.
